FAQ

FAQ:

Q: WHAT ARE YOU D:

A: We are a Panfandom AU Pokemon based game, located in an AU region known for its pokemon tournaments. EXCITING, NO?!

Q: OMGIWANTAMEWTWO!

A: That's great! But no. You cannot have a Mewtwo. Legendary pokemon are just that: Legends. Here is a list of the pokemon that you are not allowed to have: You cannot haz. Yes, they will pop up through the course of the game for events and such, but they are not to be captured. Didn't you watch the movies?!

Q: Okay....well...what can I have?

A: You can have anything that is not on the "You Cannot Haz" list. However, the RTF is very active in this area. If you check out the page for the Ranger Task Force there is a section of Endangered Pokemon. If you do apply a character, please be sure to restrict your team to only two or less of these pokemon. If your character OMGHASTOHAVEALLEEVEES, please include this in your application for review or discuss it with one of the mods.

Q: I don't play the games... but I still love pokemon :D

A: That's totally fine! Some people don't play the games, but you are more than welcome to join in on the fun! We are trying to bring together a good blend for the game and anime fans alike!

Q: What if I don't know anything past the original 151? Can I still play?

A: Of course you can! But don't be afraid of the new pokemon. 495 may sound like a big number, but trust me, each generation of pokemon have brought something great to the series as a whole. If you want to know more about the pokemon other people use there are plenty of great websites like Bulbapedia and Serebii that have all the information you need.

Q: How is the battling system going to work?

A: Eventually, the mods hope to have a Shoddy Battle server available for use in the game. Shoddy is a computer based program that allows you to build your own teams and battle others using the same mechanics as the official Pokemon games. While this option is not available at the moment and probably will not be for a while, we hope to use this as our main option for game, as it will make it easy for people to battle each other without the hassle of building teams on their DS games. One of our mods has even taken the time to write out a detailed Shoddy Tutorial, so those that want to learn can learn.

Q: But what if I want to use my DS game to make my character's teams?

A: That is our second option for battling. If you and another person in game want to duke it out over Nintendo Wifi, knock yourselves out! We highly encourage everyone to build their teams on their DS games, however, some people don't have access to wifi at all times (coughoneofourmodscough), so please don't be offended if they ask to use another method instead.

Q: What if I don't want to use either of those?

A: That is fine too! Our third option in the battling system is just over RP! We understand that for certain plots, you may want your character to win or lose. In other cases you may want to just duke it out on Shoddy or over the Nintendo Wifi, but we are more than happy for people to just battle in game. Just make sure to talk to your opponent OOC and make sure you have all the details worked out, so neither side can be accused of powergaming and your battle runs smoothly. Here is a great example of RP Batteling. That entire battle was done on a tag by tag basis, with the winner pre-determined.

Q: My Pikachu knows Surf in the metagame... will I be able to use it as one of my character's pokemon?

A: All pokemon used for battle either on Shoddy or Nintendo DS must be approved by one of the mods here. This to make sure people are not using hacked or Gamesharked pokemon to battle with, and to keep things fair for everyone. For event pokemon, or pokemon that know moves that cannot be learned normally in games, they too must be approved by the mods. Most of the time we will allow these types of pokes but make sure to gain approval to use these pokemon for in game battle.

Q: I want a Zoroak, it's not legendary, why can't I have one?

A: We will not allowing Generation V pokemon in game until Pokemon Black and White are officially released in the States. This is subject to
change depending on the amount of information that is given out at the time of the release in Japan, however, I can almost guarantee that we will have an event with the Gen V pokes when they come out. When this occurs your character cannot "magically have a lvl 50 Zoroak" as Bohren does not have Gen V pokemon running wild. Again, we will have more information about using Gen V pokemon in game as more information is released.

Q: Can I be Ash Ketchum?

A: No because we already have one :) But you may be any other character from the pokemon series, this includes video games, anime and manga characters.

Q: Can I app a character from another game or anime?

A: Yes! You can. The will need a AU background, they can't just show up in Pokemon World one day. However, characters cannot have any powers that don't exist in the Pokemon universe. Psychics and sensitives do exist in the Pokemon universe, so they are allowed within limits. Schuldig will not be able to melt other characters' brains into fine red paste, in other words. Any non-human characters you want to apply will need a human PB.

Q: How is my character suppose to interact with everyone? Aren't most Trainers on the road all the time?

A: Yes, this is very true. We hope that you take the time to make friends in game and form character circles, like that of Ash and his friends on the show, and travel together! But since the region is highly focused on Tournaments, there will be little time where the characters will not be surrounded by other trainers and people. Not to mention the tournaments go from one town to the next, so everyone will usually be headed in the same direction.

Q: How do I become a gym leader?

A: Like all regions, we have 8 gym leader positions. The mods have come together to create 8 different gyms and 8 very different characters. These characters are listed on the NPC list and the ones that are not already played by mods are available for apping. The basic personality outlines given are hopefully loose enough that people can take these characters in the direction of good character development and fun!

Q: I don't like the gym leader characters. I want my character to be a gym leader!

A: Characters can ICly challenge gym leaders for their gyms - but keep in mind that all of these people got to the place that they are by a lot of hard work and exceptional Pokemon training. They will be very difficult to defeat. Any player who plays a gym leader can also expect to be called on to battle a great deal because of the frequency of gym challenges. If players are found to not be able to keep up with this responsibility, they will be asked to step down.

Q: What time does this game take place?

A: The storyline of our game is right around the same time as the G/S/C & D/P/P series. For those that have not played the games, it takes place about 3 years after the original games, about the same place the anime is in now. Team Rocket is not as powerful as it once was, but they are very prevalent in our region! Which means that you can app Team Rocket members :)

Q: Can I have a character from another region or do I have to be a new character starting out as a trainer?

A: Both! We encourage people to not only have a character that is already a seasoned trainer from any pokemon region but also to app characters starting out as a trainer!

Q: So how does the starter pokemon system work?

A: If you are apping a character who is just starting out as a Pokemon trainer, you have two choices. You can build a reason into their backstory for them to already have received their starter Pokemon from a parent or a professor. You can have them go out into the tall grass with some bait and a pokeball and wish them the best. Or you can wait for one of the in-game starter giveaway plots we will be running - these will be fairly frequent, and your characters will have the opportunity to interact with Professor Willow.

Q: I want a Dratini and a Larvitar and an Eevee and a Regirock and a Shaymin!

A: Probably not going to happen. Pokemon that are incredibly rare in the games are considered protected species by the Pokemon League. Trainers who own one of these pokemon are required to register with the League, so that they can make sure this pokemon doesn't disappear and the trainer can be tracked down to make sure they aren't being mistreated. The Ranger Task Force takes registration very seriously and you don't want a visit from them!

Q: What is Team Rocket like in this region?

A: Team Rocket's presence in Bohren is similar to that of the mafia. Ordinary citizens, businessmen, trainers, and even some League officials are members of Team Rocket - but if the Rangers can't prove anything, then they can't be arrested. Team Rocket runs several black market operations dealing in protected species of pokemon - including illegal sales and trades, poaching, and much more. There is a boss, but his identity is a closely guarded secret known only to the upper echelons.

Q: What is the Ranger Task Force?

A: The Ranger Task Force, or the RTF, is a division of the Pokemon Rangers that deals specifically with Team Rocket, poaching rings, pokemon mistreatment and abuse, and overseeing the legal side of Bohren's many tournaments. They work closely with League officials to try and ferret out any Rocket members that might have a presence at the tournaments. Some agents may go undercover in an attempt to bust Team Rocket open.

Q. Can my character be on Team Rocket or the Ranger Task Force?

A. Yes, but be prepared to deal with the fact that your character will probably be much more involved in almost all the large-scale plots if this is the case. Your character cannot be the head of Team Rocket or the director of the RTF, and we probably won't allow them to be one of the upper members either.

Q: I have this really Idea for a Team Rocket capturing Moltres, Ho-Oh and Groundon! Can I just post it and get started?

A: This would be considered a large-scale plot, since it would naturally involve blowing up shit real good with fire. As this is the case, we require that the details of the plot be worked out with the mods before it begins, so we can keep it balanced for all players and make sure there's a way for players who don't want to be involved to stay out of it. Any Plot ideas should be posted in the OOC community ([community profile] bohren_ooc) for Player and Mod review and approval.

Q. What about being a pokemon Breeder? Can I do that?

A. Of course you can! Pokemon breeders are required to get a license from the League just like trainers, and there are limitations on which pokemon they can breed. Female pokemon on the protected list have to be registered with the League, so that the RTF can keep an eye on your breeder and make sure they aren't an underground breeder for Team Rocket. Of course, your character can be an underground breeder for Team Rocket, just expect that the RTF will be breathing down their necks while they do it.

Q. OMG YOU GUYS WILL YOU HELP ME CATCH/BREED A _______________?

A. We encourage our players to discuss their Pokemon games with each other and love seeing trades and help across the board! But do not beg people for a pokemon, and the acceptable answer to "I caught a shiny!" is not "OMFG CAN I HAS IT?"

Q. If I was looking at a map of the Pokeworld, where is Bohren?

A. East of Sinnoh :)

Q. CAN MY POKEMANZ BE SHINY?!

A. Yes, but only one per character. Please be aware that shinies are EXTREMELY rare in the poke universe and we would like everyone to try not to app shiny pokemon. Please be sure to have a good plot point explaining why the pokemon is shiny and how it effects the trainer both positively and negatively.

Q. Ev's?

A: If you know what they are, you can use them. If the person you are battling via DS or Shoddy doesn't, have a back up team that is not raised with EV's. There will be an OOC tutorial to teach newcomers about EV's IF they want to use them. If a player doesn't want to battle with EV's, then you will not battle with EV's.

Q: What if I want my character to be a Coordinator?

A: We are still working out the contest scene for the game. Contests will happen, but, again, we are still working out how it will work through the game. So to answer said question: Go for it.

Q: I herd you liek Mudkipz

A: I herd you liek to be punched in the face :D

Q: So what can this Pokegear thing do?

A: All registered trainers in Bohren are given a complementary Pokegear (I know right?). The Pokegear is basically the equivalent of a smart phone. It can do pretty much anything. You can make phone calls, check maps, post on the trainers board, send out private messaging. Basically...there is an app for everything. Our Pokegear system also comes with a complete Pokedex and also contains your trainer card including your registration with the RTF. Handy, no?

Q: Okay what is this I hear about playing as a Pokemon?

A: Recently the Mods decided to allow a new mechanic to the game to allow character's Pokemon to have separate journals if the player so pleases. This allows us to build deep relationships between not only trainers and their Pokemon but also between the Pokemon themselves.

Q: OMG I AM GOING TO HAVE A JOURNAL FOR ALL OF MY POKEMON EVER!

A: We're not going to put a limit on how many you can create, but try not to go overboard (meaning that if we start seeing twelve Pokemon journals popping up for one character, we might pull them aside and have a few words). When Pokemon are pulled out of the PC, it might be a good idea to make a short note of it in your post. Something like "Faust was glad to be out of his pokeball after so long in PC storage" would be nice, just to let the mods know that you haven't forgotten about the six Pokemon at a time rule

Q: But what If I don't want to make a journal for every single pokemon

A: That's completely up to you. Some of our players have decided to make one journal for their characters team as a whole, others are making journals for all of their Pokemon, and some are just going to use their main characters journal and HTML icons of their Pokemon. What and how you want to do this is totally up to you. The point is that you can now RP as your characters Pokemon if you so choose.

Q: So when RPing as a Pokemon, should I use Italics or...?

A: All posts involving Pokemon are assumed to be happening in pokespeak, so there's no reason to footnote your translations or put them in italics like I've seen many of our lovely trainers doing. Humans still can't understand Pokemon (unless they're Yellow).

Q: During any sort of battle do I have to switch back and forth between journals?

A: No, there is no need to separate tags into trainer and Pokemon. Likewise, if you want to bust out your Pokemon journal just to use a specific icon in battle, it's perfectly kosher to add the trainer's actions into the same tag. We don't want the tags getting ridiculously long! You are more than welcome to do whatever you'd like.

Q: So what are some examples of Pokemon Journals? I see that Trainers have their teams listed on their journal...should I do anything special for their Pokemon?

A: Again, this is totally up to you. The Mods both use a basic format for Pokemon journals but this is just because they are OCD about that kind of stuff. Check out a few differnt Pokemon Journals here: [personal profile] speedblitz, [personal profile] demlips, [personal profile] teamshadow.

Q: But what if I just want to RP as a Pokemon and not a trainer, like a rouge Lucario or something?

A: At this time, we'd prefer that all Pokemon belong to a trainer or have some sort of relation to a trainer character. Consider the Pokemon Journals extensions of your character. When you app here, your trainer is your main character & their Pokemon are parts of their family. They are one team, different personalities and different characters, but they are still all part of one cohesive unit.

Q: Do I have to do this?

A: No, you don't! But it is strongly recommended as we may have plot through out the game that involve your Pokemon being separated from their trainers. Of course you can use your character journal for this sort of thing, but some of us crazy and want to have lots of icons to use :D

Q: So what about HM's? I see a few cities require them to actually get anywhere. Do I really have to sacrifice a move slot for a dumb HM?

A: HM's are considered to be moves that Pokemon already now. Flying and Surfing are things that come second nature to Pokemon, so it is assumed that simply climbing on its back while it does this is second nature. For things like Rock Climb or Cut, these HM's will be available for use at all Pokemon Centers. Trainers can simply request these and their Pokemon can learn the move.

Q: What if my character doesn't have a Pokemon that can learn HM's?

A: Most places that would need an HM move to move around, like a River, will usually have a bridge somewhere near by. Or if you need Rock Climb to get somewhere in mountain city, there should be some sort of stairway or rope ladder your character can utilize. This will take more work, of course, but there are still options for them, so no worries!

If you have ANY other questions, please feel free to comment here and one of the mods will answer you ASAP. We want to make sure everyone is happy and that there is no confusion over the way things are done. This is a DRAMU free zone :D

Oh, hey! Can you be a coordinator, and are there any contest halls in the region?
